🇯🇵Welcome to Geekly JapanYummies – Discover the Japan You’ve Never Seen
We share authentic insights into Japanese food and culture for those who love Japan!

Hi, I’m JapanYummies, and I’m thrilled you’re here.

I work in the IT industry in Tokyo, Japan. Although I’m Japanese, most of my career has been spent at global tech companies. Thanks to that, I’ve had the chance to travel across the world, meet amazing people, and welcome international guests to Japan.

Over time, these experiences transformed me. I gained new perspectives, developed deep cross-cultural friendships, and even found myself exploring Tokyo with overseas families on weekends.

But here’s the twist: the more I connected with the world, the more I realized just how special Japan is—and how little of it is shared with the rest of the world.

Why Japan Feels Different

Japan’s appeal goes far beyond sushi, anime, or cherry blossoms.

There’s a reason why record numbers of travelers are visiting Japan right now. Yes, the weak yen helps—but it’s not just about the cost. Japan offers a rare blend of experiences you simply won’t find elsewhere:

  • Sacred temples surrounded by neon-lit cityscapes
  • Michelin-starred dining alongside humble, soul-satisfying street food
  • A society that balances cutting-edge tech with centuries-old traditions

Japan is also a place full of quiet mysteries. Like:

  • Why does everyone stay silent in elevators?
  • Why are trains so crowded yet so clean?
  • Why are the toilets... surprisingly high-tech?

These aren’t just quirks—they’re windows into how Japan thinks, lives, and thrives as a unique island culture.

What You’ll Find on This Blog

Japan Yum Geeks is where I’ll share the real Japan—beyond the tourist trail.

If you’re the type of person who:

  • Wants to eat where locals eat (and avoid tourist traps)
  • Loves understanding the “why” behind cultural habits
  • Appreciates offbeat tips that make traveling smoother and more fun
...then you’re in the right place.

Expect posts about:

  • Hidden food spots even Tokyo locals hesitate to share
  • Cultural etiquette and survival tips for daily life in Japan
  • Deep dives into Japan’s values, from “omotenashi” (hospitality) to “wa” (harmony)
  • Funny, sometimes touching stories of cross-cultural friendship

Why This Matters

Japan is friendly—but not always easy to understand. The language barrier is real, and most locals don’t speak fluent English.

But what they do have is heart.

You’ll find people who go out of their way to help—drawing you a map, walking you to your destination, or just sharing a smile. That’s omotenashi, Japan’s quiet way of saying, “Welcome. We’re glad you’re here.”

I want you to experience that—not just as a tourist, but as someone who truly gets Japan.
